What Life Skills Should A Child Learn Before Becoming A Bar or Bat Mitzvah?

For many families, preparing for a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah begins with one simple goal.

Learn the Hebrew.
Master the Torah Portion.

Stand confidently on the bimah.
Celebrate with family and friends.

Those are wonderful goals.

But I believe a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah should prepare a child for far more than one special day.

It should prepare them for life.

As both a Cantor and a certified Life Coach, I believe the greatest gift we can give children is not simply the ability to chant Hebrew. It is the confidence, character, resilience, and leadership that will guide them for decades after the ceremony has ended.

That is exactly what happened with my student Sammy from Chicago.

Sammy Needed More Than Hebrew

He stood confidently in front of family and friends.

But those were not his greatest accomplishments.

His greatest accomplishment was becoming a young man who believed in himself.
