Stop Being a People Pleaser: Take Control of Your Life

Adult Bat Mitzvah

Hey everyone! Today, I want to talk about an important topic that affects many of us: being a people pleaser. It’s draining, unfulfilling, and can take a toll on your mental health. Let me share a story about one of my students to illustrate why it’s crucial to stop living for others’ approval and take control of your life.

The Trap of People Pleasing

I had a student who always said yes to everything, trying to please everyone around him. He was overwhelmed and stressed, juggling too many tasks and responsibilities. He wanted to be liked and accepted, but in the process, he lost sight of his own needs and desires. This is a common issue that many teens face, and it can lead to burnout and a lack of self-fulfillment.

Setting Boundaries and Prioritizing Needs

We worked together on setting boundaries and prioritizing his own needs. This involved learning to say no to extra tasks he couldn’t handle and focusing on what was truly important to him. As he started to set these boundaries, he felt more confident and in control of his life. He realized that he didn’t need to please everyone to be valued and accepted.

Embrace Your Worth

It’s important to stop living for others’ approval. Set your own standards and focus on what makes you happy. Embrace your worth and take control of your life. At CoolCantor Hebrew School we teach our students to be limitless and confident in their abilities. We offer online Bar Mitzvah lessons, Bat Mitzvah training, and life coaching sessions that help teens build self-esteem and independence.

Amanda’s Journey to Confidence

One of my students, Amanda from Los Angeles, struggled with people-pleasing tendencies. She always sought to make everyone happy, often at the expense of her own well-being. As part of our life lessons from the Torah course, we worked on building her confidence and setting healthy boundaries.

Life Lessons from the Torah

In our Jewish Studies Online program, we delve into life lessons from the Torah. These lessons are not just about religious education but also about personal growth and development. We teach our students to value themselves, set boundaries, and prioritize their own needs. Amanda learned to stand up for herself and make decisions that were best for her, rather than constantly seeking others’ approval.

Preparing for the Bat Mitzvah

Amanda also prepared for her Bat Mitzvah with us. Through our online Bat Mitzvah lessons and Hebrew education online, she gained the skills and confidence to perform in front of her friends and family. The Bar Mitzvah preparation classes included learning to read Hebrew, understanding the weekly Torah portion, and mastering her Bat Mitzvah lesson.

Gaining Confidence

The transformation in Amanda was incredible. She went from being a people pleaser to a confident young woman who knew her worth. She proudly and confidently sang her Torah portion at her Bat Mitzvah ceremony, a moment she said she would remember for the rest of her life. This newfound confidence extended beyond her Bat Mitzvah, helping her navigate other areas of her life with greater assurance and self-respect.
