Ask for More. The Universe Isn’t on a Budget.” How to Build Unstoppable Confidence in Your Child

“Ask for more. The universe isn’t on a budget.”
That’s not just a feel-good quote—it’s a mindset. And it’s one I help build in every student I teach at CoolCantor Hebrew School.
Hi, I’m Ben—Bar Mitzvah life coach, educator, and confidence-builder. I founded CoolCantor not just to help students learn prayers and Torah—but to help them believe in themselves.
Because let’s face it: we’re not just raising kids to recite a portion or chant a blessing.
We’re raising future leaders.
So today, I want to give every parent reading this three unfiltered, high-impact tips that you can start using right now to build unstoppable confidence in your child.
And I’ll introduce you to Alexia, one of my students from Toronto, who transformed before my eyes using these very tools.
⸻
Tip 1: Don’t Praise Results—Praise Effort
Let’s be honest—what do most of us say when our child gets a good grade or performs well?
“Great job!”
“You’re so smart!”
“I’m proud of your mark!”
Harmless? Maybe. But here’s what it teaches: Your value is tied to success.
What if instead we said:
“I’m proud of how hard you worked.”
“It took courage to keep going when it was tough.”
“I noticed you didn’t give up—that’s powerful.”
This is what we call growth mindset conditioning. And it wires kids for resilience. It’s one of the life coaching principles I weave into every week of our Bar Mitzvah classes, Bat Mitzvah lessons, and Hebrew education curriculum at CoolCantor.
Alexia—my student from Toronto—is a living example.
When we started her online Bat Mitzvah lessons, she was shy, unsure, and easily discouraged. She’d say things like, “I’m just not good at Hebrew” or “What if I mess up?”
So, we shifted the focus. Every time she studied her Torah portion, even if she made mistakes, I praised the effort. Every time she showed up, I celebrated her commitment.
Week by week, she stopped seeking perfection—and started trusting her process.
⸻
Tip 2: Ask Better Questions at Dinner
Typical family dinner conversation:
“How was your day?”
Typical response:
“Fine.”
End of conversation.
Now imagine instead asking this:
“What was one win and one challenge you had today?”
Suddenly, you’re not getting a script. You’re getting insight. And more importantly—you’re teaching your child to reflect.
This is how we build emotional intelligence and self-awareness, two things we infuse into every online Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutoring session at CoolCantor.
During our virtual lessons, I ask each student about their week—not just their Hebrew. And the conversations that flow from these questions? They’re gold.
Alexia told me about a time she stood up for another student at school. That story had nothing to do with learning Hebrew… but everything to do with becoming a Bat Mitzvah.
Because Bat Mitzvah isn’t just a ceremony.
It’s becoming a young adult in the eyes of our community.
⸻
Tip 3: Teach Them to Say “I’m Still Learning”
We live in a world obsessed with speed and success. But confidence doesn’t come from getting it right every time. It comes from knowing it’s okay to mess up—and keep going.
So, I teach all my students this phrase:
“I’m still learning.”
It’s simple. But it’s transformational.
It removes shame from failure.
It turns mistakes into momentum.
It invites growth instead of fear.
When Alexia struggled with her Hebrew reading, I reminded her: every fluent speaker was once a beginner. She began to embrace phrases like “I’m still learning” and “It’s okay to need help.”
That attitude bled into her school life, her friendships, even how she spoke to her little brother.
She wasn’t just preparing for a Bat Mitzvah ceremony. She was becoming someone who could rise—no matter the challenge.

What We Really Teach at CoolCantor
Yes, your child will:
• Learn to read Hebrew with our best Hebrew course
• Study Jewish studies online and explore the weekly Torah portion
• Work through our online Hebrew reading course and Bar Mitzvah preparation classes
• Receive one-on-one coaching through our virtual Bar Mitzvah lessons or online Bat Mitzvah training
But that’s just the surface.
What we really teach at CoolCantor is:
• How to lead with integrity
• How to stay grounded under pressure
• How to build a confident voice—one that doesn’t need to shout to be heard
Whether you’re preparing for a Bar Mitzvah for adults, a Bat Mitzvah for adults, or your child’s first introduction to Judaism classes online, our goal is the same:
To shape a person who walks with courage, speaks with purpose, and acts with heart.
⸻
Why the Universe Isn’t on a Budget—and Neither Is Your Child’s Potential
Let me leave you with a truth I share often with students and parents:
“The universe isn’t on a budget.”
There is no limit to your child’s ability to grow.
No ceiling on how much courage they can build.
No cap on what kind of leader they can become.
But they need two things:
1. A system that sees them.
2. A guide who believes in them.
That’s what CoolCantor provides.
Whether through our Hebrew language classes online, our Judaism classes, or our complete online Jewish studies program, we blend ancient wisdom with modern life coaching to help students become the most powerful version of themselves.
⸻
Final Thought: Your Child Deserves More Than “Fine”
If you’ve ever asked your child how their day was and got a “fine”…
If you’ve ever watched them shrink from challenge…
If you’ve ever thought, “They don’t see how amazing they are”—
I see it.
And I’ll help them see it too.
Confidence is a skill.
Hebrew is a skill.
Leadership is a skill.
And at CoolCantor, we teach all three—inside our online Hebrew school, through every Bar Mitzvah lesson, every Torah portion study, and every single word of encouragement we offer.
If you want my personal help building your child’s confidence and preparing them for a Bar or Bat Mitzvah they’ll never forget?
DM me. Let’s talk.
Because when a child knows the universe isn’t on a budget…
They stop asking “What if I fail?”
And start asking, “What else can I become?”
